Definition of Common Acronyms in A.A.

AAWS – AA World Services.
ACYPAA – All California Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous
ACCENTS – Monthly newsletter published by CNIA.
ACM – Area Committee Meeting held once a month.
BTG – Bridging the Gap, the committee responsible for meeting the newcomer from a treatment facility or jail at their first AA meeting.
CNIA or Area 07 – California Northern Interior Area 07.
CONSIDER – means a vote might be taken at the GSC on this item
DCM – District Committee Member
DELEGATE – An elected Officer and our direct voice to and from GSO.
DISCUSS – a request to brainstorm and bring your group ideas and suggestions
GS – General Service.
GSO – AA General Service Office in New York City, NY.
GSR – General Service Representative, ideally each group has one.
H&I – Hospitals and Institutions takes meetings and literature into those facilities.
HYBRID – A hybrid meeting involves a mixture of in-person and remote attendees. Remote attendees join the meeting via a virtual meeting platform, such as Zoom. In-person attendees sit together in a dedicated meeting room.
ICYPAA – International Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous
LCM – Local DCM, sometimes necessary when a District is so large that it is split into smaller, or “local,” Districts.
PI/CPCPublic Information responsible for radio, TV and printed information about AA to the outside world. Cooperation with the Professional Community works with doctors, counselors, clergy, judges, probation and parole personnel, etc., to inform them what AA is and does.
REVIEW – is review the work that was completed in the past year. Provide suggestions, changes or corrections
WACYPAA – Western Area Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous
YPAA – Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous. Someone who has become an alcoholic or someone who has gotten sober at an early age, or an alcoholic who is young at heart.
